CLEAR A COUPLE OF HOURS AND DON YOUR STRETCHIEST TROUSERS
Prepare to reconsider your self-appointed title of ‘Biggest Burger Buff’ because you’re a novice until you’ve experienced the bun-and-patty-based fare Camden Market has to offer – fact.
In no particular order, here’s our top 10 recommendations of things to eat that laugh in the face of cutlery.
#1 The Patate
Stints in some of France’s best Michelin star restaurants inspired what is possibly the most decadent thing between bread: the Beef Bourguignon Burger (£7), smothered with French cheese and a generous dollop of chilli béarnaise sauce.
#2 Honest Burgers
These guys sell nothing but burgers stuffed in fluffy freshly baked buns (gluten free available) with rosemary salted chips. The Honest (£10.50) is a beef patty with red onion relish, smoked bacon, mature cheddar, pickled cucumber and lettuce is the standout, washed down with a craft beer.
#3 Burger & Beyond
They run the farm that supplies their meat, so extra premium beef is guaranteed. Try The Cliff (£10): a 90-day- aged patty with pancetta bacon, Monetary Jack cheese and tangy tarragon mayo.
#4 Ghetto Grillz
Get to Ghetto’s diner to try their take on the New York Reuben (£6.50): a gooey meat sandwich smooshed in a Brick Lane bagel with juicy layers of salt beef, cheddar, Russian dressing and sauerkraut.
#5 Other Side
The Honey Butter Bun (£8) is a chicken burger worth crossing the road for. Extra crispy breaded breast and sweet cure bacon is slathered in their signature four-hour smoked honey butter, finished with baby cucumber pickles and slaw.
#6 Baba G’s
A long-time KERB master, Baba G’s are known for their Asian-American fusion. Their Crazy Lamb Jalfrezi Burger (£7) is a classic: packed with seasoned lamb, mango chutney and pickles. It’s famous for good reason.
#7 Crabbieshack
Ritzy toppings and sustainably caught Kent crab is what make these rolls so good. Go for the Crabby Burger (£8): crunchy deep-fried soft-shell fish in squishy brioche with chilli, coriander and wasabi mayo.
#8 The Roadery
All the food served out of the hatch of The Roadery’s blue Renault Estafette van is wild, foraged or locally sourced. Try The Roadie (£7.50): a superior beef burger topped with Ogleshield cheese, Cotswold bacon, wild garlic mayo and blackberry hot sauce.
#9 Seawise
This family business has fish ‘n’ chips down to a fine art. Choose the Gourmet Fish Burger (£9), a crunchy cod fillet served with lettuce, onion, gherkin, cheese and tartar sauce. Eat inside the licensed chippie for the full seaside experience.
#10 Chicago Rib Shack
The Spicy Kiss Burger (£9.50) at this all-American smokehouse is super sized. It’s stacked with jalapeños, chipotle mayo, lashings of bacon and two slabs of cheddar cheese. Pair with a cocktail: get your whiskey fix with the Peach Tea Smash made with bourbon.
