From Death Metal to Jazz to Hip-Hop, we’ve picked out the best 6 live music gigs happening in Camden this May

The month of May brings many gifts – mostly two bank holiday weekends as well as the promise of summer. The music venues are packed this month, with a wide variety of genres hitting Camden Town.

We’ve picked out our favourites and there were too many to cut down to five so we’ve including six gigs this time round. Make sure to book your tickets now before they sell out!

Melodiesinfonie and Friends // Camden Assembly // 8th May

Who? Swiss musician Kevin Wettstein has been releasing music for 8 years under the alias Melodiesinfonie. His third album, A Journey To You takes a new musical turn venturing into the worlds of jazz and soul. For the first time, Melodiesinfonie will perform with a 4-piece band and perform from his 12 album titles, albeit with a little improvisation.

Incineration Festival Pre Show // Black Heart // 10th May

Who? Incineration Festival returns for their 6th year but if you missed out on tickets you can still grab tickets to the pre show gig featuring the incredible Portland based Idle Hands and special guests Naut from Bristol. Afterwards, The Dev is hosting an after party with extreme metal DJs playing until the early hours to kick off the metal music festival with a bang.

Still Woozy // Dingwalls // 13th May

Who? A one-man production from Sven Gamsky, Still Woozy creates their funky and abstract style of music from his garage: a combination of acoustic and electronic instruments create this unique sound. After featuring on Spotify playlists, Still Woozy has been going from strength to strength with this performance at Hoxton Square Bar upgraded to Dingwalls due to popular demand.

VOWWS // The Devonshire Arms // 30th May

Who? The Aussie death-pop duo, originally met whilst both playing for metal cover bands in their native Australia. Years later, as a solo project they relocated to New York and collaborated with seasoned producer Kevin McMahon before settling in Los Angeles. VOWWS’ third album, Under The World is a mash-up of pop, rock, electronic, western folk and surf music with a cinematic twist.

Masta Ace // Jazz Cafe // 31st May

Who? An iconic East Coast figure in the hip-hop scene, over his almost 30 year career Masta Ace has influenced many hip-hop stars from the 90s golden age. He returns to the Jazz Cafe with his trusted DJ Marco Polo in tow, following his sold out show last year.

How much? £20 – £25 entry

Amber Dee // Camden Assembly // 31st May

Who? Not afraid of jumping into the unknown, singer-songwriter Amber Dee shows off her true musical style with her new EP Caged. Named as ‘one to watch in 2019’ by BBC Introducing and having previously performed at Glastonbury, Bestival and the Great Escape, this year is set to be Amber Dee’s biggest.

Jocelyn Brown // Jazz Cafe // 11th – 13th May

Who? R&B legend Jocelyn Brown returns to her spiritual home. A staple at the Jazz Cafe, Jocelyn is back for a special intimate show – her performances with us have never been less than spellbinding, as many would attest. Spanning not just R&B but soul, funk and jazz as well, we can’t think of many other artists that embody the spirit of the Jazz Cafe as well as Jocelyn Brown.
