WHY SHOULD ONLY THE YOUNG HAVE FUN? EXPLORE YOUTH CLUB, A CELEBRATION OF BRITAIN’S SUBCULTURES
First and foremost, this is a photography exhibition that documents the power, individuality and iconicism of Britain’s subcultures. From the raves of the 1980s to the rise of grime in the 2000s, Youth Club’s photography exhibition sweeps three decades, featuring work from those swept up in the movements, including Gavin Watson, Matthew Smith, Molly Macindoe, Dave Swindells, Giles Moberley and Normski.
The name ‘Youth Club’ isn’t taken lightly and whilst you’re there you’ll be able to hang out, with a variety of old school, retro snacks and drinks (think Irn Bru, Black Jacks and Space Invaders!) as well as a ping pong table, playlist wall and arcade games.
And don’t forget to check out the artwork of Mark Wigan as you go up the stairs to Youth Club. An English illustrator and visual artist, Mark was a pioneer of urban art in London, New York and Tokyo during the 1980s. As well as creating this exclusive artwork for the exhibition, he also took part in the Dr. Martens customisation sessions when the store opened (directly opposite).
Sharing our penchant for individuality and a passion for all things creative and different, we think that Youth Club fit right in!
